If you're a fan of plate reverb, you need to check out Soundtoys' SuperPlate plug-in and its incredible wealth of sonic reverby goodness. In this SuperPlate video course, plug-in guru Larry Holcombe takes you on a deep dive through SuperPlate, showing you all of its parameters and providing many helpful usage tips along the way for various musical scenarios. By the end of this SoundToys course, you'll know the reverb inside and out and, most importantly, how to achieve a myriad of to-die-for plate reverb effects in your own productions. Larry begins by introducing you to the course and providing a quick tour of the interface so that you're well versed with the location of all the relevant components right off the bat. He also covers a bit of history on plate reverb and what makes it so special in the world of time-based effects. Following this, you'll learn about the various reverb modes (Classic 140, Goldfoil 240, Audicon, E Plate III, and Stocktronics) next and some ways to add character to them by saturating and/or compressing them via solid state analog-style drive.
Next up, you'll explore the Decay control, including the notable Infinite Decay parameter, which can create incredibly huge, cavernous sounds. Discover how you can tailor the frequency content of the reverb as well by way of the filter controls. Larry then covers the concepts of pre-delay and modulation as well as the concept of front/back perspective and thickening the reverb for creative effect.
