Everybody who has ever had a chance to listen to a MagicDeathEye compressor has been blown away by its sound. Carefully designed by Mr. Ian Sefchick (mastering engineer at Capitol Records), this tube compressor’s circuit is loosely based on a Fairchild 660. It’s a variable gain compressor that sounds just as great on your mastering bus as on your individual tracks. Tabla is arguably one of the most expressive drums in the world. With over 30 different tones, or ‘bols’, it can seem as if the pair of hand drums, collectively called tabla, are ‘speaking’ rhythm. For this sample collection, Sonic Collective & Found Sound Nation teamed up with master tabla player and percussionist, Surojato Roy, to prepare a gorgeous set of intricate traditional and contemporary rhythms as well as singular ringing and struck tones across various tabla and tunings. The samples included here were recorded in Surjoato’s studio in New Delhi, India.

Christopher Page is one of the most influential and distinguished scholars and performers of medieval music. His first book, Voices and Instruments of the Middle Ages (1987), marked the beginning of what might be called the 'Page turn' in the study and performance of medieval music. His many subsequent publications, radio broadcasting (notably the series Spirit of the Age) and performances and recordings with his ensemble Gothic Voices changed the perception of and thinking about music from before about 1400 and forged new ways of communicating its essence to scholars as well as its subtle beauty to wider audiences.
