‘poppy essence’ is inspired by their latest album EARWAX, a tragic narrative tale with an unapologetically aggressive sound palette comprising bombastic guitars, angelic vocal tones, ripping screams and sinister synth work. When we first contacted six impala, they agreed to work with us - but only if we met in the flesh to retrieve their work. We had a lot on our plate so we sent an intern. The 'Sounds' series by Gio Israel is a window to the worlds' last remaining ancient musical traditions of our time.

The source of Andalusian music is attributed to legendary Persian musician - Ali Iben Nafiaa (AKA "ZRIAB"). Migrating from Syria to the south of Spain (Andalusia) Zriab created 24 musical themes (called "Nubot"), each Nuba represented a different hour in the day.

This new musical tradition then expended to several larger musical traditions of Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and Libya, as well as been influenced by North African music and style.
