'Istanbul Qanun' by Earthone contains a set of professionally played, incredibly rich, traditional and complex melodies that allow you to discover the world of Qanun!
'Qanun' is a member of the stringed instruments and has the form of a trapezoid shape, the shape serves the purpose of adjusting the length of the strings. The strings of qanun are plucked by a ring-shaped plectrum placed on the index fingers.
On the left side, there are pegs also known as 'burgu' which are used to tune the instrument. The Turkish qanun consists of 24, 25 or 26 sets of strings of two or three strings each (generally giving a total of 75) also features special metallic levers called 'mandal' on the left side. These features were not present until the 1870s. On contemporary Turkish qanun, there are six to fifteen mandals for every three strings that the performer can alter quickly when playing. On the right end of the instrument, the strings are stretched over the bridge called 'esik' made of lamb or fish skin.
The instrument is played on the lap while sitting by plucking the strings with two picks –one for each hand- made of tortoise shell. It is a unique instrument with a bright timbre, a wide range of sound colours and pitches. It is actually known as the loudest plucked string Turkish instrument; therefore, it can easily mask the sounds of other instruments in the ensemble. 'Qanun' is like the queen of Turkish art music and it is essentially used in art music and fasil ensembles in Turkey.
In detail, expect to find 701 MB of raw content featuring 95 beautifully played 'Qanun' loops at 80, 100, 110 BPM and includes a dry version (w/o any additional e.q, compressor or reverb effects) and wet version of each, giving a total of 190 files. The Tar is a Turkish folk instrument played with a plectrum which is also commonly used in Azerbaijan, Iran, Uzbekistan and Georgia.
Its body is composed of two bowls of different size and is generally made from mulberry trees. The gögüs section is covered with a membrane taken from the heart of water buffaloes or cattle. Sap section is from hard wood and fish line pitches are tied onto it. There are two main groups of strings on tar. Those in the first group are used in playing the tune and consists of three groups of two strings. 'Istanbul Cumbush' by Earthone presents a collection of traditional cumbush melodies that have been professionally played by exceptional musicians to reflect its unique and characteristic sounds.
The cumbush is a Turkish stringed instrument of relatively modern origin. It was developed in 1930 by Zeynel Abidin Cumbush (1881-1947) as a fretless oud-like instrument that could be heard as part of a larger ensemble. It is shaped like an American banjo, with a spun-aluminium resonator bowl and skin soundboard. Although originally configured as an oud, the instrument has been converted to other instruments by attaching a different set of neck and strings.

For the Gypsy musicians who played in huge weddings, it was perfect as the oud and the Saz always disappears in big spaces, especially when played with loud instruments such as trumpets drums and such.
