The Lyre is an ancient Greek Harp dating back to ancient Mesopotamia (2500BC). The earliest depiction of the seven string Lyre was found in a sarcophagus in Crete (1400BC). The classical Lyre has a soundbox/resonator with two raised arms connected with a cross bar, where the strings are attached.
We deep-sampled the Lyre with a variety of finger positions, each with a different attack and percussive quality, including Finger, Nail, Muted, and Short Tremolo. The finger is warmer and softer, whereas the nail and muted articulations are more pointy, percussive, and defined. We also recorded 3 types of harmonics, slides, under bridge, and bowed Lyre. In addition, the Lyre also contains Glissandi FX, Bowed FX and Sound FX.
The Lyre was recorded with four microphone positions, including contact mics, inside close mics, semi-close, and room mics. The end-result is a staggering 9,300 samples and the most comprehensive Ancient Lyre ever sampled. We also added our new micro-tuner, so you can use traditional middle-eastern tunings.
Our CHAOS engine has also been added to multiply the textures and possibilities this library has to offer. We hope you enjoy using this library as much as we enjoyed making it for you!
MICROPHONE POSITIONS
The Lyre comes with four different microphone options, including Contact Mic, Close-Internal, Semi Close, and Room Microphones. The contact microphones give a unique perspective into the resonating body of the instrument, whereas the close mic gives you an upfront sound captured right outside the body of the instrument. The semi-close and room microphones are more ambient.
ASSORTED ARTICULATIONS
In addition to the 4 finder styles, the 8Dio Lyre contains a rich section of assorted articulations: 1st harmonics, 2nd harmonics and 3 harmonics were sampled separately. In addition, it contains slides, under bridge picks, and bowed lyre. We also created a large assortment of effects, including Glissandi-style effects, Bowed FX and more traditional Sound Effects on the Lyre.
MICRO-TUNINGS & OPTIONS
The 8Dio Lyre offers a variety of ethnic micro-tunings, which transforms the instrument in several ways. These include Rast, Saba, Bayati, Hijaz, Huzam, Sikah, and Suznak. We also created an Ensemble function, so you can have up to three Lyres playing at once. We also added our new Flow-Note system, so you can have the program play repeated notes rapidly.

A unique wooden Harp with an alternative and warm sound
The "Tyrolean Harp" is a relatively unknown wooden Harp only existing within the alpine region. Compared to a standard concert harp, it has more warmth to it and a "wooden" sound character.
It was recorded in 96kHz, features three different playing styles, up to four dynamic ranges, three different microphone systems (close: A-B & M/S; room: A-B) and comes with a total of 3394 samples (15 GB uncompressed). Moreover, it is licensed with Native instruments and therefore NKS & Kontakt Player (Free) compatible.

Arco is a beautiful ensemble of four pianos, meticulously sampled in a concert hall with a range of bowed and plucked articulations. Arco is perfect for dramatic swells, shimmering textures and lush melodic lines. Over a year in the making, and the first of its kind, Arco's unique sonic flavours will be a welcome addition to any composer's toolbox. Runs in Kontakt 5.3 or above.
The sound of Arco could be described as a hybrid between a piano and a string ensemble. We took four pianos (two grands and two uprights), put them in a concert hall and performed each note with a range of techniques. After weeks of planning and experimenting, we settled on using nylon fishing line, coated in two types of rosin - bass rosin for the lower range and cello rosin for the upper range.

Ancient Greek Strings is a fantastic collection of 7 deeply sampled stringed instruments that delve deeply into the historic roots of Western musical traditions, stretching back thousands of years. This library features a Barbiton, Cithara, Lyre, Goat Horn Lyre, Pandura, Phorminx and Trigonon. Crafted of wood, gut and goat skins, these classic musical artifacts capture the sound and spirit of classical Greek civilization at its height. The influence they have had on modern harps, guitars and zithers is clearly audible and plain to see in these faithful reconstructions. Each piece was hand-crafted by master craftsman Panagiotis Stefos of LyrΑvlos in Athens. Stefos and his team played each instrument, all recorded in exquisite detail by producer John Valasis, with 8 round-robins and 4 dynamic velocities per string.
