The 'Sounds' series by Gio Israel is a window to the worlds' tribal musical traditions as played by the last remaining musical masters of our time. West Africa presents the world's most enriching percussive traditions. Originally used for three functions - Communication, Healing and Entertainment, the native drums of this vast region were an essential part of everyday, tribal lifestyle.
Originating in the old Mali empire, we wanted to capture the sounds, drumming style and instruments used in today's West African countries, from Senegal to Gambia, Mali, Guinea, Liberia & Burkina-Faso... We recorded six different drums, The Jung-Jung, Sangba, Djembe, Kenkeni, Balafon and a talking drum all played by legendary, Senegal born percussionist, master Malik Sow.

The 'Sounds' series by Gio Israel is a window to the worlds' ancient musical traditions.
