Formed in 2013, Magic Sword are an American electronic trio from Boise, Idaho. They're known for wearing cloaks and masks during their performances and go by the names of The Keeper (red, keyboard, audio-visual), The Seer (blue, guitar), and The Weaver (yellow, drums). They released their debut full-length album titled Magic Sword Vol. 1 in 2013 on Tender Loving Empire along with a comic book with the same name. In 2016, they released their first EP on Size Records titled Legend and embarked on their first national headlining tour.

With the world dealing with a global pandemic, studios and music shops closed, I really had to get creative with sound design.

For this collection, SIKKY turned to major artists and producer in the Hip Hop and R&B space like OZ, Boi-1-da, J-Louis, and Mike Dean for inspiration.

To present a unique take on a familiar sound, we worked with vibraphonist Alexander Gagatsis to distill the intimate velvet tones found at the softest of dynamics of his vibraphone. To expand on the main instrument patch that includes 'true tremelo' control, Alex performed arpeggios and swells, as well as a technique of using the stick end of the beater. Combined with the 'Seven Days Kontakt engine' that stacks reverb and delays, it's easy to create ethereal soundscapes or loop-like experiments, and explore a whole new take on the sound of the vibraphone.

The "Empirical Sequencer" is a bigger version of our favorite "Cute Little Sequencer". It features the same ease of use and creativity of it's little brother with a few extra features. We kept the main characteristics such as the independent sequence lines allowing polyrhythms, the randomisation and the forced scales that made the success of the "Little" version, but extended the number of steps to 16 and replaced the velocity sequence for a "Parameter Control" line for increased flexibility.
