Seminal Influences and Key Learnings that Helped Shape My Own Sound
Every musician has a long list of other musicians, past and present, that have inspired, influenced and helped shape their own sound and musicality. It's the natural evolution of music. We asked Matt Schofield to pass on to you some of the key learnings that his Guitar Heroes passed on to him.

”BB King, Albert King, Freddie King, Albert Collins, Jimi Hendrix, and Stevie Ray Vaughan have all greatly influenced my own sound as I'm sure they've influenced many other players. In this course, I'll show you a few of the techniques and approaches that I picked up from each one of them.

Starting out with BB King, the king of the blues and the root of it all for me and so many others - his deceptively simple approach is filled with deeply sophisticated musicality. The mighty Albert King is a dose of blues power, the king of string bending, and pure intensity and raw soul.

Freddie King, the Texas cannonball as he was known: Freddie touched on everything from country blues to funky blues rock and his groove was infectious to me as an aspiring player. Albert Collins, the master of the telecaster: he had an utterly unique style which has always filled me with joy and excitement.

Jimi Hendrix took the blues to new worlds and showed us all possibilities that we never even dreamed of. And finally, but certainly not least - Stevie Ray Vaughan! Stevie wrapped all of his influences into his own style and inspired a new generation of players to do the same.”

In this course, Matt will first introduce his heroes to you and describe why he found them so influential. After each discussion, Matt will then present a performance study illustrating those influences in a musical context, over a backing track. A breakdown follows every performance and he will explain and demonstrate all of the key concepts and approaches in play.

”I feel privileged to be able to stand on the shoulders of all of these giants who pioneered and created the very vocabulary of blues guitar. They wrote the history of blues guitar and provided us all with a treasure trove of inspiration to draw on for years to come.”

You'll get standard notation and tabs for all of the performance studies. Plus, you'll be able to use TrueFire's learning tools to sync the tab and notation to the video lesson. You can also loop or slow down the videos so that you can work with the lessons at your own pace. All of the backing tracks are included to work with on your own as well.

Grab your guitar and let's dig in with Matt Schofield!
