Truefire JD Simo's Practice Sessions: Soloing Dynamics TUTORiAL
Learn & Practice 8 Creative Soloing Approaches
What makes one player’s solo distinctive from another is not just the note selection and technique -- it's also the player’s expressive use of dynamics.

In JD Simo’s Soloing Dynamics edition of Practice Sessions, you’ll learn 8 very powerful "soloing dynamics” approaches for taking your solos to the next level -- whatever style you play!

”In this hands-on format, we’ll build your command of expressing yourself by playing and practicing together, across 8 interactive practice sessions, each focused on a different soloing refinement.

Each session begins with a quick breakdown of the approach and then I’ll perform a demo over a groove in a variety of styles for musical context.

We’ll cap off each session by rolling the track and trading back and forth as I guide you through the core approach along with several variations and embellishments.

We’ll work on holding back the funk, when NOT to use vibrato, building tension, delicate R&B double-stops, non-linear phrasing, use of space and other key soloing dynamic approaches.”

You’ll cap off each Soloing Dynamics study together with a hands-on practice session. JD will roll the track and you’ll trade back and forth as JD guides you through the core bending examples followed by several variations and embellishments.

Working regularly with these "interactive practice sessions” will get your Soloing Dynamics chops up to speed quickly and help you become a more tasteful, seasoned guitarist.

You’ll get standard notation and tabs for all of the performance studies. Plus, you’ll be able to use TrueFire’s learning tools to sync the tab and notation to the video lesson. You can also loop or slow down the videos so that you can work with the lessons at your own pace. All of the backing tracks are included to work with on your own as well.

Grab your guitar and let’s dig in with JD Simo!

”Scales, modes and arpeggios are certainly important tools that jazz guitarists need command of but they’re really just the framework that players use to map their improvisations, over the prevailing chord changes. Learning how to apply creative ideas, melodic devices, and phrasing, over that framework, is the key to crafting fluid, engaging jazz solos and improvisations.”

Guitarists are typically taught to play positionally, which is important but also tends to limit a player’s command of the fretboard.

Breaking away from positional playing and learning how play horizontally up and down the neck is the key to being able to navigate the fretboard freely and tap unlimited creative opportunities.

In Andy Aledort’s Single String Improvisation edition of Practice Sessions, you’ll learn and practice eight creative approaches for crafting melodies, licks, and improvisations - using just a single string!
