30 Day Singer How to Sing and Play Piano at the Same Time TUTORiAL
Soft / Video Lessons

Welcome to your tutorial on singing and playing piano at the same time! In part 1, we’ll learn (or refresh) the melody of "Shake it up” and play through the chords separately. In part 2, we’ll put singing and playing together in phases. And in part 3, we’ll pick up the tempo and learn a versatile rhythmic pattern.
We’re using "Shake it up” today, but you can follow these steps with any song you’re learning. For the best results as you’re just starting out, I recommend you choose EASY 3-4 chord songs, set your metronome at a SLOW tempo, and KEEP GOING even if you miss a chord or lyric.

This tutorial is all about singing in your signature style. We’re going to use Auld Lang Syne to practice, since a lot of you already know it, and it’s a pretty simple melody that we can make our own!
In part 1, we’ll learn the classic version and work on a healthy, resonant tone, which is the foundation for classical and choral singing. In part 2, we’ll use a more contemporary tone and practice our pop and r&b stylization. And in part 3, we’ll explore yet another style of singing with jazz. Within each video, I’ll cover a few essentials for singing in that style, and you’ll get plenty of time to sing, sometimes along with me and sometimes with piano.
