Groove3 Dorico Key Editor Explained TUTORiAL
Join Groove3 instructor Doug Zangar for an in-depth look at the Key Editor in Dorico, a feature that allows for quicker, easier control over many of your score's components with a familiar piano roll layout that's common in most DAW programs. In this Dorico video course, you'll see how to adjust dynamics effortlessly and broadly, pitch, tempo, various CC data, and much more, all of which can increase your workflow speed. These videos are designed for those who have a basic familiarity with Dorico.

Doug begins by demonstrating some basic functionality, including how to access the editor (with the mouse, key command, or Jump Bar), scrolling/zooming, instrument selection methods, and more, both in Play Mode and Write Mode. Then see how track selection works in the Key Editor, which allows you to view tracks and instruments independently of the score or in concert with it. More detailed information on scrolling and zooming is then covered in the Piano Roll and Percussion Editor, as is playhead navigation and grid resolution.

Next, explore various ways to add, remove, and edit notes with the Draw and Select tools, both in Play and Write mode, and get a look at the various key commands available and the Drumstick tool as well. Doug then demonstrates how to work with the editor lanes - adding/deleting lanes, assigning parameters, saving configurations - and the key commands involved for various functions.

Plenty of more follows, including MIDI velocity (for adjusting dynamics, etc.), MIDI pitch bend (drawing, editing with the Draw and Line tool), dynamics (creating, editing, etc.), tempo, CC data (creating and editing various types), Histogram (graphical representation of MIDI data based on their MIDI value), copy-and-paste, working with multiple instruments, and more!

Mastering the Key Editor in Dorico will help you create more realistic-sounding scores more quickly and effectively, and this Dorico video tutorial course is the quickest and easiest way to get there.
