Truefire Guthrie Trapp's Roots Recharge TUTORiAL
A Genre-Bending, Artistic Soloing Masterclass
"One of the greatest soloists I've ever heard! Fluid, technical, inventive, and soulful - Guthrie Trapp is the kind of guitarist that makes other players go home to either burn their axe or practice real hard.” - John Oates

Once every other blue moon, an artist emerges on the scene and pushes the art and craft of guitar to a whole new world. The moon must be blue because Guthrie Trapp is 'recharging' roots music with spellbinding chops and his soulful musicality.

"A force ready to be reckoned with, Guthrie's gone to school on many great players, forging his own alchemy which is very complex. THE GUY to watch in the next few years!” - Jerry Douglas

A member of dobro legend Jerry Douglas' band for five years, Trapp has also played and recorded with a 'Who's Who' list of marquee artists including Garth Brooks, John Oates, Trisha Yearwood, Vince Gill, Travis Tritt, Dolly Parton, Tim O'Brien, Delbert McClinton, Randy Travis, George Jones, Alison Krauss, Sam Bush, Tony Rice, Earl Scruggs, Lyle Lovett, and many others.

"Guthrie Trapp is the 'Man For All Season's on the guitar!” -Delbert McClinton

Fortunately for we students of guitar, Guthrie is as passionate about music education as he is about writing, recording and playing. His top-rated video exchange learning experience, from our sister company ArtistWork, focuses on his exemplary country rhythm and soloing techniques.

We're now thrilled to welcome Guthrie to the TrueFire side of the family with his Roots Recharge Masterclass and its companion jamming experience, In The Jam with Guthrie Trapp!

Guthrie's Roots Recharge Masterclass digs deep and wide into the full spectrum of Guthrie's musicianship, which spans every popular style and genre of roots music. Using 10 tracks from his own catalogue as the framework for this masterclass, Guthrie will demonstrate and breakdown his 'recharged' rhythm and soloing techniques for a variety of roots-based genres and feels.

”I love to write and play music across all of the different genres and styles of roots music. Whatever style I'm playing on the stage or in the studio, - Blues, Rock, Country, Americana, Jazz - I'm thinking about energy, color, emotion, and most importantly, how to express myself and connect with the audience.

This is the focus of Roots Recharge - I call it 'the true spirit of making music.' I'll show you the rhythm concepts, soloing techniques and creative approaches that I use all of the time to open up the fretboard to give myself the creative freedom to express myself however I wish.

You'll play your way through the course. We'll work with a mixed-genre variety of 10 backing tracks. I'll perform and breakdown all of the rhythm and lead parts to demonstrate key concepts and techniques in a musical context. Using TrueFire's learning tools, we'll practice those parts together, and then jam on them together.

I designed my Roots Recharge edition of In The Jam to stand on its own or serve as a companion to this Masterclass. You can mix, mute or solo any of the instrument tracks. You play rhythm and I'll solo, or I'll play rhythm and you solo.

I hope your Roots Recharge learning experience helps you unlock your own creative freedom so that you can express with your music what you feel in your heart.”

You'll have all of TrueFire's advanced learning tools at your finger tips to personalize your workspace and learn at your own pace.

You can loop, slow down, or speed up any section of a lesson. Plus, all of the tab and notation is synced to the videos for the optimal learning experience. You'll also get tab and standard notation files to print out, Guitar Pro files, and all of the backing tracks to practice with.

Grab your guitar, and let's 'recharge' our roots with Guthrie Trapp!

P.S. Jump in the band with Guthrie's Roots Recharge edition of In The Jam, which also features all of the Masterclass backing tracks. Switch camera angles and mix, mute, or solo any of the audio tracks for complete control of the jamming experience.

Guitarists spend most of their time on stage playing rhythm guitar. Our role in most band settings, across virtually every genre, is establishing the groove of the songs we’re playing with the drummer and bass player. This is especially true with American roots music like blues, soul, funk, rock and even jazz.

In this hands-on Practice Sessions edition from Scott Sharrard, you’ll focus on developing solid rhythmic approaches for a variety of roots music ranging from the blues to all of the other roots-based genres that we love to play on the guitar.
