The Balkans - where Europe meets Asia... No one plays the Sax with as much attitude as in the Balkans. All the cultural diversity of the Balkans is reflected in its varied and colorful music. They have a distinct sense of rhythm and melody, and frequently use augmented seconds intervals and improvisation in their music. Their language technique is perfectly fast and that's why they're playing fast. Their performances are in a range of scales - western and gypsy middle eastern makam scales.

The 'Divan Saz' is the largest of the baglama family. It is also called the Meydan saz and the name is believed to be related to the fact that in meetings of Asiks, they would challenge each other. It has a metre-long neck and eight strings and is most commonly played in Anatolia. They are used both for Folk music and for modern popular music.
